Occasion
Choose for the hour you are dressing
Match the weave to the room. A Kanchipuram does not have to do the work of a cotton, and a cotton should not be asked to carry a wedding.
Wedding
Kanchipuram and heavy zari borders. Give the pallu a pin. Choose a blouse neck you can sit in for hours.
KanchipuramFestive
Banarasi and mashru for puja, sangeet and dinner. Gold zari loves ivory, maroon, bottle green and black.
BanarasiGathering
Soft silk when you want sheen without the weight of a temple border.
Soft silkDay
Cotton and lighter weaves for work and travel. They pleat faster and need less pinning.
Cotton01Colour in the room
Look at the saree in daylight before the event. Screens push pinks and blues. If you are wearing the lac and gold of this house, a maroon, ivory or deep green drape will sit beside it. Black makes zari look brighter. Pastels need a defined border so they do not disappear in photographs.
02What to leave off
If the pallu is already worked, skip a heavy necklace and keep earrings. If the body of the saree is quiet, the jewellery can be the second voice. Temple jewellery with a Kanchipuram, smaller gold with a soft silk, almost none with a cotton if the room is an office.
